Wind energy industry is becoming more important for Hamburg; „most of the important international producers of wind turbines […] are represented in Hamburg, from Repower Systems and its Indian parent company, Suzlon, Siemens and Vestas to Nordex, which will move its corporate headquarter from Norderstedt to Hamburg by end of the year.” (Source: „US-Konzern macht Hamburg zur Windkraft Metropole“ in Hamburger Abendblatt on 26th March 2010)
The motivation for the study "Supply Chain Risk Management in the German wind energy industry" has been arisen following the emergent importance of wind energy industry. The aim of the study is to learn how the wind energy industry deals with existing challenges and risks. Differences in the position in the supply chain as well as the different methods and responsibilities should be elaborated.
The wind energy industry has stabilized at a relatively constant level of growth after years of ever-increasing new installations and a period of consolidation.
Although service processes are among the critical success factors, still no service provider is able to actually convince its customers, referring to a service of the BWE survey of early 2009.
The Institute of Business Logistics and General Management (LogU) of TUHH again sent two representatives to this year’s Production and Operation Management Society (POMS) Conference in Vancouver, Canada (http://www.pomsmeetings.org/Confevents/015/). Philipp Hohrath und Sebastian Brockhaus attended the gathering of international researchers and practitioners on Canada’s west coast. They each presented their research projects and gathered information about state of the art research in the areas of operations, supply chain management, risk management and sustainability.
